Researcher, author, translator & filmmaker Edouard d’Araille has been in print since 1999 when ‘In a Short Space of Time’ was first published. He has released works of non-fiction, poetry, fiction & translation, as well as being the author of several films, including 'Hotel Marienbad' (1996) & 'Signatura Rerum' (2001).
This page provides some biographical details about Edouard d'Araille, project lead of Phase 1 (2020-2022) of the 'AVD' research project - whose results and conclusions about dietary protection from viruses he has reported on in 'AVD: The Anti-Viral Diet' (4th Ed.). Born in Canterbury of a French father and German mother, Edouard d'Araille writes predominantly in the English language. Of his early years he has barely spoken on record, although upon the question of language preference he has written: "English was really the only language spoken at home - except during the frequent parental arguments I was to make less sense of - and it has become the language that means the most to me." In a passage from the volume 'Truth Lies', monsieur d'Araille writes: "Even if we could recall everything - would it do us any good if such an omniscient power could not enable us to change the past? Aristotle is firm that even God cannot do this and I am inclined to agree with him at this juncture. - What I can remember of my own distant past is so jumbled and unreliable that I am ominously cautious in interpreting it". Edouard d'Araille grew up in Leeds, studied at Oxford University and has lived in London and Shropshire.
Although his first printed essays date back to 1989 - on Hume, Schopenhauer, Hegel and other Western philosophers - it was not till a decade later that Edouard d'Araille's non-fiction writing began to be published. He provided the prefaces and introductions to numerous works of world literature (Dickens, Gogol, Balzac and others) at the same time as a number of his works in philosophy, film theory, educational psychology and other subjects were being published from 2000-2010. Monsieur d’Araille’s scholarly research has ranged over diverse areas, including Psychopathology, Napoleonic History, Mesopotamian Rituals and Nutritional Science. He has translated works from French, German and other languages - including works by Alain Robbe-Grillet, Dante Alighieri, Stefan Zweig, inter alia.
Ever since he was six years old - Edouard d'Araille shares in the preface to 'Truth Lies' - he was known for carrying a book of poetry to school every day - authors such as Yeats, Lear, Coleridge, Whitman. Edouard d'Araille's earliest poetry works - 'Unborn Tomorrow' & 'Even We Are In Arcadia' - were first distributed as pamphlets in the 1990's. Since 1999, fifteen volumes of his verse have been published - including ‘Poesia Nueva’, ‘Love Immortal’ & ‘Words Can’t Hold...’. Some of his works have been written under pseudonyms. The late Professor John Bayley wrote of verse cycle 'Unborn Tomorrow' (1999): “this is technically fascinating and moving poetry”. Edouard d'Araille's most recent work 'Je Suis Poëte - Damned by the Gods' (2021) draws together verse from a quarter of a century of poetic writing, introducing a number of previously unpublished poems.
Edouard d'Araille's first fiction-writing dates from his twenties, short stories and novel works being published from 1999 onwards, including fiction verse cycles such as 'Out of these Eyes' and 'After the Fire' as well as the extended novella 'Raja's Dream'. Volumes of fiction released between 2000 and the present include 'Faceless', 'The Immortals', 'General Store' and 'The Last Romance'. Closely related to his works of fiction is the volume 'Adapa's Ascent', in which he has created a verse translation - from the Mesopotamian - of the 4000-year old story of Sumerian hero Adapa. 'The Birth of Fiction' - an introductory essay - explores the nature and meaning of storyteller through a consideration of some of the first stories ever written. Prof. Shlomo Izre'el, the world's leading scholar on Assyriology, writes of it: “This is a wonderful piece of work and a real contribution to reading literature”. The 6-novel series 'Crimes Past: Murder in America', his latest work, is being released from 2022-23 and has been adapted for the screen.
From 2001 to 2017, Edouard d'Araille wrote critical introductions to over a dozen works of western thought, including Kant's 'Critique of Pure Reason', Eduard von Hartmann's 'Philosophy of the Unconscious' and Benedetto Croce's 'Logic as the Science of the Pure Concept'. He is also the author of the history of philosophy 'Que Sais-Je? - A Chronology of Thought', which investigates the development of speculative thought from before written history and considers the separate development of thought occurring on different continents as well as their interconnectedness and mutual influences. This work considers carefully the sequences via which thought has developed and asks whether thought develops inevitably along certain pathways of progress. Of his preoccupation with philosophy, Edouard d'Araille has written: "I date back my life as a 'philosopher' to those earliest times when I experienced that sense of wonderment - of cosmic awe mixed with mortal anxiety - which overwhelms one so completely as a child, such that all of life looks like nothing more than a fairground ride without purpose. This certainly goes back to when I was eight or nine years old, and I guess you might call that pervasive philosophical emotion one of 'existential dread'." Autumn 2022 sees the republication of Edouard d'Araille's philosophy work 'The Cosmic Mirror: Being, Life, Art & the Cinema of Six Dimensions', first published 2000.
A number of Edouard d'Araille's works have been focused on scientific topics, including investigation of the nature of spatio-temporal dimensions, study of the science of human mind, exploration of the psychological processes of learning and, in his most recent work, 'AVD', the analysis and appraisal of the results and conclusions from biomedical science and nutritional immunology which appear to establish that an 'anti-viral diet' is already a proven reality, though still one which needs a considerable amount of additional research. Writing about his experience of summing up the findings of the 'Anti-Viral Research Project', he says: “All that I have attempted to do here, has been to make one step in the right direction - even if I may have tripped and stumbled in numberless places in my attempt to pursue a scientific method in my investigation of a vital health topic. My time and resources with 'AVD' were limited, but with the right team of researchers behind it and with all the energy and determination to achieve what appears to be within our reach, I believe that an effective and invaluable Anti-Viral Diet may soon become a reality for us". A follow-up volume, 'The Science Behind AVD' is out Summer 2022, a new series of articles by twenty-four scientists and medical researchers, explaining the actual science behind the theory of an 'Anti-Viral Diet'.

"This is technically fascinating and moving poetry."
"This is a text of the highest order [...] It is a beautiful poetic work that relaxes and soothes the reader, but at a deeper level requires close reading to draw out the subtle meanings hidden within the text [...] really worthwhile as it is an anthology of rare genius and beauty. "
"I enjoyed this book immensely. [...] The book has a good mix of drama, comedy and suspense all worked into an ingenious plot. I fully recommend others to read it. It is a real gem."
"What an unbelievable tale, yet how naturally it has been told. The author is so convincing that I genuinely believed that 'Morton Maximus' actually existed! I learnt things about Hollywood that I never knew about before, and particularly liked the way in which fact and fiction, future and past, have intertwined and play off each other in this novel."
"There isn't a single type of poetry missed out of this anthology collated from ten poetry collections by Edouard d'Araille - the tragic and comical, romantic and political, nonsensical and mystical are all in here. This author writes fearlessly and in a concise, punctual, gripping style. His words keep me in a state of poetic suspense."
"The most romantic book of poetry ever published." (about 'Love Immortal')- Great World Books
"From the opening quote by George Orwell down to the post-finale 'The Last of London', this is a visionary and spectacular work of poetry that plays with words like they are some kind of verbal plasticine. This is an author from whom one never knows what to expect. He startles me at every turn with his outlooks on our Humanity."
"This is a wonderful piece of work and a real contribution to reading literature. [...] It is a really beautiful book."
"An intriguing analysis. Well worth a read - an interesting take on the role of diet with regard to health."
"Just an amazing way to learn about how to protect yourself from viruses. Really helpful and informative, a massive help in my understanding."
